Over the past few years, my work has primarily involved working in oil and acrylic paints as well as watercolour drawings. Previous works also consist of photography, sculpture, and hand built ceramics.
Painting allows me to explore various concepts of colour, varying textures, surfaces, and brushwork to best depict my vision – seeking the unusual; scintillating the senses. Having grown up in New England and settled in Hertfordshire, I am always observing and thinking about light; painting with colours to uplift and give energy. Beyond the composition of the painting, my main focus is colour…. Saturating, sensual, vibrant, intoxicating. I start with the preconceived idea and let the colours of the pigment develop instinctively.
My application of colour is firstly expressive, and secondly theoretical; seeking to give the viewer the experience of both intensity and warmth. My love of travel and the exotic has given an easy means to express this. While I paint for myself, I also hope that some of my paintings will be psychologically uplifting and environmentally enhancing to others.
